Department and Position Overview:
The Clinical Services Department (CSD) has oversight and creation responsibilities for all program content. The vice president’s principle responsibilities are to manage the department P&L, utilization, resource allocations, further the development of junior clinical personal while continuing to provide clinical and strategic support with content development for new business and existing accounts. This is accomplished through KOL key findings, situation analysis, SWOT, unmet needs, target positioning, target product profile, brand vision, key claims and messages, strategic imperatives and supporting activities.

Specific Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities:
  • Is responsible for
    • Monitor budget including direct costs and labor costs to ensure team members/direct reports are managing to assigned budgeted labor hours and managing direct costs
    • Create and execute product-focused strategy learning sessions for the internal teams
    • Facilitate the implementation of medical strategies and tactics for new business pitches by providing background information regarding disease state and therapeutic agents
  • Ensures all personal
    • Maintain and/or exceeds minimum billable utilization percentages for all position levels with in the department
    • Work within and manages to a budgeted labor hours by job and position level, to ensure minimum standards of job profitability.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and adhere to PhRMA, FDA, OIG and ACCME guidelines
  • Ensures personal responsible for content development
    • Facilitate the implementation of medical/marketing strategies and tactics for internal teams on new and existing business opportunities by providing
      • Current data review
      • Market overview
      • Clinical landscape
      • Developing trends regarding the disease state and current therapeutic options
    • Provide medical and marketing rationale to the creative department for a consistent brand look with new business opportunities and existing products
    • Review all content related pieces for medical/clinical/scientific accuracy before going to the client
    • Develop and recruit regional and national thought leaders; maintain working relationships with same for content development for medical communications programs
    • Responsible for the development, writing and dispensing of medical content for medical communications materials
    • Review medical content, provide references and background medical information, coordinate faculty, medical writer, and medical editor for scientific publications
    • Supply background materials, executive summaries of competitor products, and marketing information
    • Provide direction and support to medical writers and editors regarding the development and implementation of all content related pieces prior to the release to the client
Position Requirements:
  • Education or Equivalent:
    • 4-year college degree and advanced degree,
    • 8-10 years of clinical services/medical writing experience. MD, PhD or PharmD with medical advertising or communications agency experience preferred.
    • 2-3 years of management experience in an agency environment
  • Knowledge/Skills Requirements:
    • Manage and facilitate the implementation of medical strategies and tactics for new business pitches by providing background information regarding disease state and therapeutic agents
    • Ability to monitor budget including direct costs and labor costs to ensure team members/direct reports are managing to assigned budgeted labor hours and managing direct costs
    • Ability to manage numerous, complex programs in various stages of life cycle
    • High-level client service, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
    • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the therapeutic areas, science, markets and products for all assigned accounts
    • Solid knowledge of health care marketing principles
    • Demonstrated ability to apply marketing knowledge to brand building initiatives
    • Demonstrated ability to use information and data effectively
    • Managed market/care experience

    • Works with confidential and sensitive corporate, client and employee information and must conduct him or herself accordingly
    • Able to effective manage multiple projects with overlapping timeframes and deadlines
Department Responsibility:
  • Provides the following services to all divisions, as assigned by immediate supervisor
    • Strategic guidance for defined projects/clients
    • Proposal backgrounders; proposal writing support
    • Creative program design (content and components, as warranted)
    • Content development; content quality control for all sold business
    • Market research—CBD, ROI, sold business
    • Clinical services/medical direction—CBD and sold business
    • Medical writing—sold business
    • Management of references/RefMan
    • Management of permissions
    • Management of market research/resource related databases
    • Internal education on guidelines and regulations
  • Adheres to PhRMA, FDA, OIG, ACCME guidelines and internal compliance policies
  • Owns and is accountable for all agency procedures and workflow
  • Attends internal meetings with partners, sales, client services, meeting services, traffic, and key personnel to discuss project status, etc.
  • Attends client meetings as requested by sales, partners, and client services staff
  • Ensures the highest standards of quality control of client materials and, as appropriate, develops best practices protocols for project teams to facilitate such quality control
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Proficient in all database management and research tools as required to perform specific job functions
  • Travel required up to 25%; travel requirements subject to change as business base evolves
  • Required to be available to work outside the company’s standard work hours
