Job Summary
As Associate Scientific Director Level III, your responsibilities will include content development of scientific materials, data verification, and journal selection. You will be responsible for working with authors and clients on development of scientific content and integration of comments and changes. You will have an active role in the development of advisory board and publications planning meetings, strategic medical education planning, strategic scientific and medical communications, prepare scientific copy as needed, and serve as scientific expert in any your therapeutic area of expertise.

Primary Job Functions
  • Writing and editing scientific and medical documents
    • Quality: working within quality standards (on budget, on time, accurate)
    • Independently handles a wide range of projects, including some complex projects
      • Excellent writing and editing skills: Ability to create a work product that requires minimal review
      • Excellent in writing mechanics for clinical documents
      • Independent execution with respect to content and strategy
      • Proficient in Peer review
      • Evaluates work of level I to II writers for content and key messages (peer review training competent, begins to train for exec review)
      • Begins training for exec review
    • Performing research (literature searches and reviews, etc.)
  • Analyzing and accurate interpretation of clinical data
    • Capable of independent analysis and interpretation of data
    • Understanding of evidence-based medicine within relevant therapeutic areas
  • Therapeutic area knowledge/perspective
    • Understanding and application of scientific and clinical concepts
    • Understanding of pharmacology, clinical trial design, drug development process
    • In depth understanding of multiple therapeutic areas or transferable skills applicable to multiple therapeutic areas
  • Strategy and client services/communication
    • Understands marketing strategy and client’s goals
    • Support SD in execution of strategy and external communication
    • Understands marketing strategies; able to contribute to publication planning efforts
    • Ability to prepare basic strategic documents (pubs plan, discussion guide, SWOT and gap analyses, etc.)
    • Contributes to client’s strategy development
    • Communicates with team members about project status and strategy
    • Participation in conference calls with clients, authors/KOLs as guided
    • Communicates with clients and faculty
    • Travel to and participate in congresses, client meetings, symposia, etc
    • Understand business offerings and Identify opportunities for account growth and cross-selling business
    • Participate in new business pitches, including attendance/presentation
People Management
  • Responsible for training and mentoring new writers
Project Management
  • Support management of publications plans
  • Oversees multiple complex projects with level I and II ASDs
  • Partner with account executive and SD for budget management and proposal review
  • Guide level I and level II ASDs to work toward budgetary goals
  • Understand/be aware of forecasting and staffing tools
Skills/Education Needed for Position
  • 3+ years of Cardiovascular, Oncology, Immunology, or Women’s Health experience would be helpful
  • An advanced degree such as a PhD, MD, or PharmD
  • The ability to interpret data
  • Must have supported experience of medical/scientific writing skills
  • Experience with peer review of scientific/medical publications, especially in developing scientific manuscripts from study data
  • The ability to autonomously in a team structure; and have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • The ability and willingness to travel (up to 30%)
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, and Internet research
  • Punctual, responsive, and reliable
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic
