Role and Responsibilities
The Vice President, Group Account Director (VP, GAD) is responsible for all the accounts assigned to his/her group. Essentially, this group head’s function is one of personal leadership in client relations and in internal management of accounts. The VP, GAD is the person to whom the account team looks for support, guidance, and mentorship, and to whom clients look as the agency’s representative on medical education strategy and execution. The VP, GAD must be an expert in medical communications and pharmaceutical marketing and be the clear strategic lead on all client projects. This individual is responsible for identifying business opportunities and client solutions on a regular basis. The VP, GAD sets the tone for how the account is managed by assuring focus on key client objectives and delivering appropriate resources while maintaining profitability. The individual must demonstrate solid business judgment and sound strategic thinking, while being a manager that is committed to the career development of junior staff. The VP, GAD reports directly to the Managing Director, Operations and Client Services.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Ensures the timely development and execution of client projects to guarantee client satisfaction and long-term business relationships
  • Provides strategic support for Agency recommendations across all client accounts
  • Provides account team leadership, and conveys the specific requirements for multi-functional support to all client accounts on a timely basis
  • Plans, develops, and defends budget recommendations, work goals, measurements, and training requirements necessary to provide both quality and profitable service to clients
  • Assigns duties, goals, and supervises all responsibilities of the account service staff
  • Executes duties and assignments as directed in compliance with company guidelines, processes, procedures and objectives
  • Participates in new business efforts; and advises of the potential for new business opportunities with existing and prospective clients
  • Assures that client relationships remain harmonious and that the clients receive a quality of service which will encourage further growth and profitability in our relationships
  • Maintains open and complete communications of client issues with functional leaders and senior management
  • Provides leadership/motivation and conveys the vision and values of the Agency to staff at all levels of the organization
  • Establishes priorities for agency workflow with consideration of all agency deliverables
  • Initiates long-term internal projects for teams that will contribute to the agency’s overall performance and evolution within the market
  • Ensures proper team resource management and adherence to client contract terms
  • Delivers revenue growth goals established in conjunction with senior management
  • Stays on top of business and client concerns to head off issues proactively
  • Ensures collaboration among all agency departments; fosters teamwork and strong agency morale
  • Actively participates in management and training of account team personnel
  • Ensures account team members are challenged and developing their skill set
  • Has a calm, rational, balanced management style and is able to help team strive for the same kind of professional posture
Professional Skills and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required with a minimum of 10-12 years of solid, progressive medical education management experience.
  • A Masters degree and/or science degree is highly desirable
  • Fluent in agency process, including job routing and traffic procedures, to ensure quality control at all stages of the project
  • Has deep knowledge and experience with multi-channel pharmaceutical marketing
  • Experience with interactive/digital project execution is considered a great asset
  • Must be a natural leader who can collaboratively and effectively lead an agency team to generate measurable results
  • Must be a self-starter who works well in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Proven ability to manage and interact with people at all levels of an organization, fostering strong cross-functional teamwork and results
  • Proven ability to think strategically, and the ability to teach others to think strategically
  • Must possess exceptional oral and written communication skills, presentation skills and client relationship building skills
  • Commitment to delivering creative solutions to clients. Ability to align clients and staff behind these solutions
  • Must be able to effectively manage, motivate and develop a team of account directors, project managers, project coordinators, and interns
  • May require up to 25% travel to project assignments and client meetings
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
